We are particularly excited about our "Featured Artist" segment. We are often privy to works in progress and would like to showcase the final pieces created by our some of our friends. "A Safer Path" Southern Sudanese Woman's Mosaic Project

This is an inspiring story of a group of refugee Sudanese woman now living in Australia. By the combined efforts and dedication of the Sydney West Area Health Service , various individuals and the Sudanese community women, a beautiful and meaningful mosaic project was created. It is a symbol of all that is good in humanity both by its visual imagery and the purity of spirit that created it. It is permanently hung in the Nepean Hospital which is located at the base of the Blue Mountains in Penrith NSW, Australia. Please open the PDF and learn about the women and their mosaic.

Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. - Covenant Women's Hospital Installation

As it turns out we have a theme in this newsletter, much by coincidence we must say! We asked our friends at the Tesserae Mosaic Studio in Plano Texas to share with us their latest project. Much to our surprise it happened to be an area WomenÕs Hospital installation! Shug Jones was kind enough to send us some images and we would love to share them with you.

About the Artists

Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. is a custom design studio in Plano, TX where Shug Jones and Julie Dilling design and create one-of-a-kind mosaic works of art for clients who are searching for the perfect focal point for their space. Though specializing in glass tile and smalti, the artists also work with porcelain, ceramic, marble and pebbles, employing contemporary methods and tools to produce timeless pieces of art. Shug and Julie work with designers, architects, builders, homeowners and public art entities to develop mosaics that will be installed or hung in homes, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and public spaces. Their work is varied, as they are inspired to produce contemporary and modern ideas, to design realistic painterly works or to reinterpret ancient mosaic patterns.

Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. has produced mosaics as small as 6" x 8" fine art pieces and as large as a 6'h x 72'w historically themed public art installation. Mosaics created in their studio can be seen at the Hampton Inn Tropicana in Las Vegas, NV, the Crown Plaza La Concha Hotel in Key West, FL and the Gaylord Texan Resort and Conference Center in Grapevine, TX, as well as many other venues and homes across the US.
